The story of how Silent Night came about...

Hello again! I’m here to tell you the neat little story about how this book came about.

I’m one of those quiet Christmas freaks that loves all things Christmas, from the brightly lit Christmas tree to gift giving and holiday cookies (not so much baking them, but eating them), and the music and movies.  But I’m not the biggest Christmas freak in the family. My daughter wins that title.

She even changed her spring wedding to a December wedding in New Hampshire of all places. But her wedding day did not have snow. It wasn’t even cold. As a matter of fact, it was warmer on her wedding day than it was on the original date in June the following year.

But I digress, this isn’t about my daughter’s wedding, however beautiful it was. Although this IS about my daughter. You see, when I started writing she was twelve. And the books were an absolute no-no for a twelve-year-old. But the girl was curious, so she took a peek at my first book and opened to a very violent scene that scarred her. Since that day, she hasn’t read anything I’ve written with the exception of a book she begged me to write about surviving a high school bully. Beyond that, she won’t open a book, even those that are more young adult and rather tame in the scheme of things.

She was here with her family at the end of October and my mother-in-law told her she needed to read my new series – Season of the Dragon – but my daughter said she wouldn’t read anything of mine. Not since that sneak peek she did when she was younger.

Well, the next day a cover came across my Facebook scroll. And I bought it knowing she loves all things Christmas. I sent the cover to her with the note “I’m writing this, so you have to read it.”

She surprised me by saying only if I can see it as you write it. Obviously, I agreed and sent her my already written but very raw first two chapters.

She sent me nearly a line by line edit with changes that she felt very strongly about. Like you don’t have confetti for Christmas. It needs to be glitter and it shouldn’t be red, green, and blue, it needs to be red, green, and gold because those are the colors of Christmas.

She called me because she was so concerned at how I would take being edited by a non-writer. She didn’t know if I would be angry at her notes or not. But being in this business for fourteen years, you recognize when someone is trying to help make your story better versus tear it apart. While I wrote 99.9 percent of this book, my twenty-six-year-old daughter had a hand in a couple scenes. The hot cocoa reference was hers, along with the color correction, and changing confetti to glitter.

Outside of the first two chapters, she didn’t have much feedback beyond that she loved the story. And I am so pleased that I got her to read an urban fantasy short story of mine. Not only does Silent Night capture the magic of Christmas, it also has monsters and a pretty damn cool sword, too.

Silent Night is available on Kindle, Nook, iBooks, Kobo, and Google Play and some other lesser-known distributors. It’s also in paperback.

The Dragons are loose!

DRAGON DAWN, the third book in my Season of the Dragon Trilogy is out now!

So now you can get all three books!

DRAGON TEMPEST, DRAGON STORM, and DRAGON DAWN

are also available in SEASON OF THE DRAGON hard cover!

Monsters, trust issues, betrayal, and a near death experience.

What else could go wrong?

The end of life as we knew it didn’t come with a nuclear blast. It didn’t come with the deadly impact of a hurdling asteroid. No. It came in a wave of illness that swept the world with fear, and in our quarantined silence, the monsters awoke.

Leviathans, serpent kings, and dragons came forth from the bowels of the Earth. The season of the dragon began with fire and fury and ended with a new world order. One in which these giant terrorists held all the power.

When Mikhail St. Clare betrays the monsters by saving me from death at their claws, I cannot trust the last remaining dragon shifter. Not when humankinds’ survival is at stake, and he had a hand in our near extinction.

The only thing we seem to agree on is our desire to annihilate the leviathans and unseat the Serpent King. Our personal futures depend on ridding the earth of these murderous overlords.

We thought crossing the leviathan-patrolled city where every corner hides a hideous death was our most lethal hurdle. But building a bomb large enough to wipe out an entire species carries its own insane levels of danger.

One wrong move and we could destroy everyone living in New York instead.

Merry Christmas to all of you!

Enjoy the read!

Ciao,

JET.

Happy Thanksgiving and a new release

In a few hours it will be Thanksgiving and I'm thankful for having the gift to tell stories you all like to read. This new release is a little different and was written specifically for my daughter, who has only read one of my books and only because she hounded me to write it. You see, when I was first writing, she took a peek at a book that she should not have as a young teenager. And since then, she has not touched anything because that single passage she read scared the daylights out of her.

Well, I saw this cover and knew she would read a Christmas story, as she is a total Christmas freak. Well, she was happy with it and absolutely loved the story I crafted. Of course she did have a couple suggestions that I did weave into the book as well. So, if you are looking for a light Christmas story, filled with the magic of Christmas, pick up SILENT NIGHT

SILENT NIGHT

Everyone thinks the Kringles only work in toy making. Nope. I slay monsters.

But when Christmas rolls around, I protect Santa’s sleigh.

So, technically, on Christmas Eve, I’m his little helper.

Most of the time, we deal with a stray rogue monster or two on Christmas Eve. But this year is different. It seems the monsters have decided they want to play with Santa’s reindeer and ring his bells.

If I don’t put a stop to this madness, not only will Santa be their next meal, but children all over the world will wake to a Christmas that never was.

Not on my watch …

The Four Horseman Series by Laura Thalassa

Have you ever read a series that hangs on in your head for days on end?

One that you were so sad to see end, but impressed as hell at how it ended?

Well, The Four Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa is that series for me.

I bought Pestilence solely based on the first cover. I knew nothing about it or the author, but that first cover Laura had was striking in a way that spoke to me. That first book became one of my all time favorites. It surpassed the expectations that I had based on the original cover, and I have been addicted to this series ever since.

That first book still haunts me to this day.  I read Pestilence at least ten times in a row - it was my exercise book and I kept trying to dissect it as a writer - but every time I set out to do that, it sucked me into the story and I forgot about trying to figure out what devices she was using to get me to care about the characters and what was happening. As an author, for a book to do that to me, it has to be beyond just good, it has to be stellar. And Pestilence is THAT good!

War and Famine the next two in the series are good as well, but they did not capture my attention the way Pestilence did.  But they are still well worth the read.

Anyway, I was lucky enough to be able to get an advanced copy of Death that comes out on November 9th. And I finished it within two days, ignoring my own writing schedule and despite having company at the house for the weekend.

Holy cow. This one blew me away as a reader, and completely humbled me as a writer.

It is now my new favorite book of all time.

I cannot express how beautifully written this is. It made me immediately care for the main character and I did get a few laughs between biting my nails with the tension that Laura layers throughout the story. It moved me to tears on more than one occasion, and wrapped up the entire series in a way that was incredibly satisfying.

And yes, I know I'm being vague here, but I don't want to give any spoilers, as my hope is that you will grab this series and devour it as completely as you will that turkey you have for Thanksgiving!

If you like dark paranormal romance novels, pick these up. I promise, you will not be disappointed!

Happy Halloween and enjoy the reading by the fire season that is now upon us!

When I make a deal with the devil to save my boyfriend, I never imagined that he would break up with me two days later. Or that Lucifer himself would show up at my door, demanding payment.
What is he asking for as payment, exactly?
I must track down the last demon hunter for the devil, so Lucifer can kill him once and for all. If I do this, Lucifer will tear up my contract.
If I refuse, he will drag my soul to Hell to start my eternal punishment.
My choices suck. An eternity in agony, or lead someone else to their death in exchange for my very soul.
What would you choose?

*¨¨*•áƒ¦*•.¸ New Release *¨¨*•áƒ¦*•.¸
Being dead is a great way to find yourself…
Struggling to pay her bills, New York theater student Evaine Michaels sees an opportunity to make money by taking part in an unsanctioned clinical trial for a new drug. But things don’t go as planned. Instead, she wakes up in a derelict hospital, chained to a bed with no memory of who she is or how she got there.
Then a band of pale-skinned, fiery-eyed men, led by the gorgeous Luca, bursts in and rescues her. Taking her to a safe-house for her kind, Evaine learns that the drug trials have made her a Deader- a reanimated Undead.
Luca is inexplicably attracted to newly rebirthed Evaine. But he has no time for the feelings she’s awakening within him- or the fact that she can read not only his thoughts, but his feelings as well. He's spent the last decade exterminating the scientists experimenting on, and creating Deaders. And the last thing he needs is a female messing with not only his mission, but also his head, and his heart. Especially a volatile newborn Deader.
Evaine and Luca find themselves drawn to each other in a way neither has experienced before- until Evaine remembers not only who she is, but that she’s engaged. And that her human fiancé, Tristan, is probably still looking for her.
But when a rogue faction of Deaders, called Feeders, attempts to kidnap Evaine, Luca suspects she might be the key to stopping the experiments for good. And everyone will have to band together to keep Evaine off the enemy's cutting table once and for all.

Poor neglected blog and some release news!

I feel like this blog is the neglected step-child of my social interactions. Or Kevin McAlister overlooked and left home alone.

You know that feeling when you've gone down the list of things to do, and you've got this nagging sensation you are forgetting something?

Well, that's this blog, and I only figured out what was missing from my release news plan when I went to my website to update one of my book descriptions.  There on the first page is this neglected child.

I even had the gasping moment when I realized I had not posted here!

So now that I recapped my bad book-parenting skills I will sheepishly and shamelessly promote my new release (that came out last week).

Welcome to the world DRAGON STORM

My goal: make the last dragon rue the day he crossed me.

When the monsters broke their deal for humanity’s surrender, the last dragon saved me from certain death. Unfortunately, Mikhail St. Clare played me like a professional grifter, making me think he was on our side, and not aligned with the Serpent King, who wants to stomp out humans like we were pesky insects.

Mikhail’s special power to shift into human form aided his infiltration of my defenses, and ultimately coerced me into revealing my secret weapon against the monsters.

Then I stupidly led him right to our headquarters. I should have known. He was a dragon, after all. One that had facilitated the destruction of our ability to fight back on any mass scale against the Serpent King and his army of leviathans.

With nothing left to defend, I’m on a mission to make that bastard pay for what he has done.

But before I can find him and put a bullet in his brain, I have to cross a leviathan-patrolled city where every corner hides a hideous death.

Available at the following ebook stores:

I have a few pre-orders as well, but I will get to that once I gush over one of my favorite author's books. I have been waiting for DEATH for what seems like ages and
it's now up on Amazon for preorder!

He’s known by many names: Thanatos. Horseman. God’s last angel. And then, of course, there's the one I’m all too familiar with—

Death.

The day Death comes to Lazarus Gaumond’s town and kills everyone in one fell swoop, the last thing he expects to see is a woman left alive and standing. But Lazarus has her own extraordinary gift: she cannot be killed—not by humans, not by the elements, not by Death himself.

She is the one soul Death doesn’t recognize. The one soul he cannot pry free from her flesh. Nor can he ignore the unsettling desire he has for her. Take her. He wants to, desperately. And the longer she tries to stop him from his killing spree, the stronger the desire becomes.

When Lazarus crosses paths with the three other horsemen, an unthinkable situation leads to a terrible deal: seduce Death, save the world. A hopeless task, made all the worse by the bad blood between her and Thanatos. But Death’s attraction to her is undeniable, and try though she might, Lazarus cannot stay away from that ancient, beautiful being and his dark embrace.

The end is here. Humankind is set to perish, and not even the horsemen can stop Death from fulfilling his final task.

Only Lazarus can.

_________________________________
If that doesn't give you chills, I do not know what will!  You can pre-order this here!

As for my preorders: I have two out there. The first is a stand alone novella:
THE DEVIL's OFFER - coming October 25, 2021

When Layla makes a deal with the devil to save her boyfriend, she doesn’t think her boyfriend will break up with her two days later, or that Lucifer himself will show up at her door, demanding payment.

What is payment, exactly?

Layla must track down the last demon hunter so Lucifer can kill him once and for all. If she does, he will tear up her contract.

But when she meets this demon hunter, he’s unlike anything she’s ever met before. And he wins her over.

How is she to earn her freedom if she’s falling for the man she’s supposed to lead to his death?

And the second is the last in the Season of the Dragon trilogy: DRAGON DAWN Coming 12/21/21:

Our short history together proved one thing. Trust is a four-letter word.

I doubt Mikhail St. Clare will ever truly trust me again after my colossal screw up that nearly led to his death. And I’m not sure I trust Mikhail now that he thinks humans are just as monstrous as our enemies.

The only thing we seem to agree on is our desire to annihilate the leviathans and unseat the Serpent King. Our personal futures depend on ridding the earth of these murderous overlords who have been hunting us since I escaped, and Mikhail betrayed them.

What they don’t know is that we have a plan.

Of course, nothing about our scheme is easy.

We thought the monsters were our most deadly hurdle. But building a bomb large enough to wipe out an entire species is tricky. One wrong move and we could destroy everyone living in New York instead.

Both The Devil's Offer and Dragon Dawn will be available on all vendors, but for now, the preorder is only up on Amazon.

I hope you enjoy your lovely fall evenings with a good book and a nice toasty fire!

Until next time,

The Dragon is out!

Dragon Tempest is out now on all major e-book distribution channels!

Buy your copies here!

Everyone thought monsters were things of pure fantasy.

We were so very, very wrong.

The end of life as we knew it didn’t come with a nuclear blast of light. It didn’t come with the deadly impact of a hurdling asteroid. No. It came in a wave of illness that swept the world with fear.

With all the humans in quarantine, quiet settled over the planet for months. Beasts hidden away for millennia ventured out of their buried caverns to investigate the sudden stillness.

Leviathans, serpent kings, and dragons came forth from the bowels of the Earth, and they saw no reason to go back to their sleep after the humans tried to reemerge.

The season of the dragon began with fire and fury and would end with a new world order. One in which these giant terrorists held all the power.

Every military institution across the globe was rendered to dust by these intelligent creatures. And then came their demands: humanity’s complete surrender and servitude.

Being a slave is not in my DNA and yet I have been called upon to negotiate a peace treaty with these monsters.

The only problem is every fiber of my being opposes their terms.

If I blow this mission, the human race won’t be given another chance.

Order Dragon Tempest Now!

Until we meet again... Happy reading!

Ten years to convince him he was justified in reaping me.

I waited ten years to see him again, but this was not the reunion I had hoped for.

Can I break through the wall between Heaven and his memories before he kills me? Or will I end up on the wrong side of the reaper realm at the angel’s mercy?

Grim's Daughter is Free through February 15th!

GRIM'S DAUGHTER IS FREE on Amazon!

I wasn’t supposed to be possible.

Dead means dead, and the dead don’t reproduce. But when Lucifer ceased to exist, things went a little haywire for a while, opening a strange supernatural phenomena that made a lot of things possible, including me.

Not that I’m complaining, but being the living, breathing daughter of Death and Fate has its own set of challenges.

Like career day at school. Every year it was the same thing. And every year I was sent to the principal’s office and scolded for terrifying the other kids when I told the truth about my parents.

So much for being honest.

Which brings me to my current predicament.

No one knows what my destiny is supposed to be. It’s not written in any of my mother’s books, and although the reapers think I’m destined to take over as the Grim Reaper, my father does not want me to go into the family business.

But I’m not sure I have a choice.

Grab your FREE copy today!

This title will only be free from February 12 through February 15th!
