The Four Horseman Series by Laura Thalassa

Have you ever read a series that hangs on in your head for days on end?

One that you were so sad to see end, but impressed as hell at how it ended?

Well, The Four Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa is that series for me.

I bought Pestilence solely based on the first cover. I knew nothing about it or the author, but that first cover Laura had was striking in a way that spoke to me. That first book became one of my all time favorites. It surpassed the expectations that I had based on the original cover, and I have been addicted to this series ever since.

That first book still haunts me to this day.  I read Pestilence at least ten times in a row - it was my exercise book and I kept trying to dissect it as a writer - but every time I set out to do that, it sucked me into the story and I forgot about trying to figure out what devices she was using to get me to care about the characters and what was happening. As an author, for a book to do that to me, it has to be beyond just good, it has to be stellar. And Pestilence is THAT good!

War and Famine the next two in the series are good as well, but they did not capture my attention the way Pestilence did.  But they are still well worth the read.

Anyway, I was lucky enough to be able to get an advanced copy of Death that comes out on November 9th. And I finished it within two days, ignoring my own writing schedule and despite having company at the house for the weekend.

Holy cow. This one blew me away as a reader, and completely humbled me as a writer.

It is now my new favorite book of all time.

I cannot express how beautifully written this is. It made me immediately care for the main character and I did get a few laughs between biting my nails with the tension that Laura layers throughout the story. It moved me to tears on more than one occasion, and wrapped up the entire series in a way that was incredibly satisfying.

And yes, I know I'm being vague here, but I don't want to give any spoilers, as my hope is that you will grab this series and devour it as completely as you will that turkey you have for Thanksgiving!

If you like dark paranormal romance novels, pick these up. I promise, you will not be disappointed!
