Pre-order function now available on Amazon

I don't know about other independent authors, but I was pretty excited for the pre-order option to become available on Amazon for those of us who load through their Kindle Direct Platform.

With that now available, I can set pre-order dates for the books I have scheduled to be released. For both my own books and those of the publishing house.

I'm excited to announce the pre-order availability on the third book in my Ryan Chronicles: Trinity's Wrath as well as the Trilogy boxed set!

The actual release date on these books is October 17th and I am so jazzed with Trinity's Wrath.  I hope you love it as much as Saving Grace and Raven Heart.

CJ Ryan's life seems to have fallen into place, and while the backdrop of his Hawaiian honeymoon provides the perfect healing elixir, the guilt of sentencing his father to an eternity of torture at Lucifer's hands starts to intrude on his happily-ever-after.

When he and Valerie return from Hawaii, a note from the king of hell greets him, outlining in sickening detail his plans for CJ and those he holds dearest.

With everyone he loves on Lucifer's hit list, CJ must start living up to the bargain he made in Heaven, but every one of Hell's gates he closes is one less portal available for his father's escape.

Pre-orders of Trinity's Wrath are available on

The Trilogy is currently only available for pre-order on Amazon.

Novel Concept Publishing also has a pre-order release:
The second novel in The Charlotte Hayes series from S.S. Lange.

Check it out:

Charlotte Hayes struggles to put the mistakes of her past behind her. With her focus on her law enforcement career, an obsession with stopping her sister's wedding, a lot of caffeine, and a chance meeting on a plane, she might just be able to shed the darkness shrouding her and move on with her life.

Special Agent McKinney's orders are to keep Charlotte Hayes alive. However, secrets are piling up and his balancing act between her safety and a slew of unexpected emotions wreaks havoc with the biggest case of his career.

Unfortunately, for both McKinney and Charlotte, the men responsible for her near destruction will stop at nothing to enact their revenge.

So, if you're a fan, you can select the pre-order option and the book will automatically be delivered onto your e-reader on the release date. Like all other pre-order options, you won't get charged until the date the book is released!

Happy reading.
Until next time,
Ciao.

Author Interview Series with Susan P. Baker

Today I have the pleasure of talking to Susan P. Baker, author of four novels and two nonfiction books as well as a retired Senior District Court Judge in Texas. Along with serving twelve years full time on the bench, Susan’s experience includes ten years as a judge sitting by assignment, nine years as a practicing attorney, and two years as a probation officer.

JET:  Can you tell us about your most recent book, Suggestion of Death?

Susan: Years ago when I was on the bench full time, I’d hear child support enforcement cases. The idea came to me that many of the mothers would get benefits for their kids if the fathers were dead, in many cases far more than they were receiving in child support. Then, of course, I thought “What if” mothers thought of that...

JET:  What drew you to mysteries and true crime?

Susan: I grew up reading mysteries and true crime. But I went to the library every two weeks and checked out the max number of books and read everything I could get my hands on. Horror. Best sellers. Romance. My mother didn’t seem to care what we read. I continued reading mystery, true crime, horror and whatever was available. When I started writing seriously, I read in TV Guide about how much romance writers made per book so I wrote a romance. I was told nicely that it sucked so thought I’d try my hand at mysteries which was where my heart was anyway.

JET:  What’s been your most challenging hurdle on the road to publication?

Susan: Getting support. Realizing I had to rely on myself.

JET:  What was your favorite moment in the journey?

Susan: The day I got word My First Murder would be published.

JET:  Which authors had the most influence over you growing up?

Susan: Edgar Allen Poe. Brett Halliday. Maud Hart Lovelace. Harper Lee. Margaret Mitchell. Who can remember all the authors I read, I can’t.

JET:  When did you know you wanted to take the plunge into the writing world?

Susan: At about age 13. Along with one other girl, I signed up for a summer school writing course but there wasn’t enough interest, and it was cancelled.

JET: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of book research? Most interesting fact you uncovered?

Susan: For my Murdered Judges book (which I researched and wrote over a six year period) I took several weeks off from work and drove around the country to as many of the sites of the murders as I could (my best friend went with me, we had a blast). We interviewed people, researched in their local papers and history centers. I already knew this but it brought home the fact that often there is more to the story than makes the papers. In several cases, people told us the REAL motivation behind the killings (or at least the local rumors). Ex. The judge was having an affair with the perpetrator’s wife. Or the judge was having an affair with the perpetrator's sister. Or a number of other things that were not always publishable.

JET:  Of all the novels and stories you’ve written - which one is your favorite?  Why?

Susan: Aargh—I can’t decide between my books any more than my children or grandchildren. I do love Mavis Davis, though. (MyFirst Murder and The Sweet Scent of Murder). She’s got more nerve than I do. And Erma Townley in Death of a Prince doesn’t mind saying things I’d never say. I learned a lot by writing from a man’s point of view in Suggestion of Death. Jim had to rethink his motivation, his life from a male perspective. I had to find a plausible reason for their split and for them to get back together.

JET:  Any advice (from a writer’s standpoint) for the novices out there?

Susan: Read everything. Don’t be afraid to experiment. But if you don’t love it, if you aren’t compelled to write, quit and save yourself a lot of time and heartache.

JET: All right - now that I’ve hammered you with the big questions, let’s tackle my favorite (and geeky) quick ten...starting with:  Paper or Plastic?
Susan: My own recyclable bags.
 JET: Steak or Tofu?
 Susan: Seafood.
 JET: Beach or Mountains?
Susan: Both—I live on an island in the states and the mountains in Mexico.
 JET: Country or Rock-n-Roll?
Susan: Rock. But I like most music.
 JET: Leather or Lace?
Susan: Lace can be cooler but scratchy. Leather is hotter but softer. I prefer natural cotton.
 JET: Angels or Demons?
 Susan: Angels, cherubs.
 JET: Paper or Digital?
Susan: Both. I like the feel of paper but digital is good when traveling which I do a lot.

JET:  Silent Film Classics or Cheesy B Rated Horror?
Susan: Classics.
JET: Twilight or True Blood
Susan: It’s a toss up.
JET: Coffee or Tea?
Susan: Definitely tea. Twinings English Breakfast or Earl Grey. Or real chai.

JET:  Thank you for indulging me.  Before we wrap this up, can you tell us what you're working on now?  What's next?

Susan: Texas Style Justice about an ambitious female Texas District Court Judge who doesn’t know those who are supporting her for higher office intend to corrupt her.

And Death of a Rancher’s Daughter about  criminal defense attorneys Sandra and Erma who are hired to defend the alleged killer of a rancher’s daughter by the victim’s mother.

JET: Thank you so much for taking the time to chat on my blog.

Folks, you can find out more about Susan P. Baker and her work on her website: www.susanpbaker.com and you can follow her on twitter at @Susanpbaker.

In the meantime, check out her new book, Suggestion of Death...

Jim Dorman, a laid off newspaperman in the Texas hill country, can’t pay his child support.  He is summoned to court for nonsupport and  the first thing the judge does is read a Suggestion of Death into the record for a man who was supposed to appear that day.  She tells the next man that his children would be better off if he were dead, and when Jim steps up for his turn, the judge tells him to get a job or go to jail.

At his next court appearance the judge reads another Suggestion of Death into the record, sparking Jim’s curiosity. He begins researching and discovers a number of men who have been cited for nonsupport have died accidental deaths.

When an informant winds up murdered and stuffed in a trunk and strange mishaps befall Jim, he figures he’d better find out who’s behind the deaths before he ends up as the next dead dad.

Author Interview Series - Melissa Mayberry

Today I have the pleasure of hosting Melissa Mayberry, one of the new author’s under the Novel Concept Publishing imprint.  Melissa’s book Mellifica: Devastating First Love just came out on New Year’s.

JET:  Can you tell us about Mellifica?

MEL: Mellifica: Devastating First Love was written about a difficult time in my life. I could have never imagined the impact that one person had on my life, and it still amazes me that I was able to pull through and grow and learn through the torment that my first love put me through.

JET:  What drew you to romance?

MEL: Romance doesn’t leave you sad; it gives you a happy ending. I’m a complete sucker for happy endings. Mellifica is written as young adult because the true events that this book is based on started when I was sixteen.

JET:  What’s been your most challenging hurdle on the road to publication?

MEL: Writing about personal events can be easy because memories can be more vivid than my imagination. However, when the storyline became heartbreaking, those memories were hard to write about. I found myself visiting old demons that I had forgotten years ago. Writing Mellifica was so emotional for me, and I hope it brings my readers the full spectrum of emotions that it brought me.

JET:  What was your favorite moment in the journey?

MEL: The day I decided to start writing I was excited to be able to create and revisiting some of my memories was special. During the process, I’ve made a lot of new friends and became reacquainted with several old friends. When I finally finished, and it was the best I could do, I was overwhelmed with relief and pride. There is no way to pick a favorite from all of those moments.

JET:  Which authors had the most influence over you growing up?

MEL: I was crazy about poetry when I was younger, and I also had a somber outlook. So, of course, I loved Emily Dickenson.

JET:  When did you know you wanted to take the plunge into the writing world?

MEL: When I was in high school, I wrote a lot of short stories, poems and even wrote for the high school paper. The boyfriend that Mellifica was written about, “Arien,” encouraged me to write and we wrote a lot of short stories together. I loved it so much, but years after that relationship I couldn’t continue to write even though many people begged me years ago to write this story. About eighteen years passed, and the true story of “Arien” came to a final, heartbreaking and very ironic ending. The events were just so strange that I knew it was fate telling me that I had to write again.

JET: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of book research? Most interesting fact you uncovered?

MEL: There wasn’t a lot that I had to research for this book. All of the information fell in my lap, begging me to put it all together, and I can’t tell the most interesting fact that I uncovered. That would be a huge spoiler for book two! I can tell you that it has to do with a gravestone. It’s interesting to note that there is a website with pictures of headstones. The craziest thing I’ve done was stalk Facebook pages. I even “friended” a certain nemesis—in the name of research.

JET:  Of all the novels and stories you’ve written - which one is your favorite?  Why?

MEL: Of course it’s Mellifica. It’s the first full length novel that I’ve written, and it’s so close to my heart, that it will be known to me as one of my biggest accomplishments. The books are eighteen years of procrastination that I’ve buckled down and accomplished.

JET:  Any advice (from a writer’s standpoint) for the novices out there?

MEL: If you haven’t written in years, make friends with people that practice the art. Without my critique group, I may never have gotten past the first chapter. Having a few very honest people to read your work is more helpful than a thousand people that love you reading it. Keep your skin thick and your determination strong.

JET: All right - now that I’ve hammered you with the big questions, let’s tackle my favorite (and geeky) quick ten. . . starting with:  Paper or Plastic?

MEL: Paper—you know, book covers!

JET: Steak or Tofu?

MEL: Both.

JET: Beach or Mountains?

MEL: BEACH!!

JET: Country or Rock-n-Roll?

MEL: Hair bands!

JET: Leather or Lace?

MEL: Both

JET: Angels or Demons?

MEL: Both!

JET: Paper or Digital?

MEL: Digital

JET:  Silent Film Classics or Cheesy B Rated Horror?

MEL: Ew. Neither.

JET: Twilight or True Blood

MEL: AH! Both.

JET: Coffee or Tea?

MEL: BOTH!!

JET:  Thank you for indulging me.  Before we wrap this up, can you tell us what you're working on now?  What's next?

MEL: Well, I’ve finished Mellifica Book two. I don’t know what to call it. I don’t know what the cover will look like. So, I’m working on the little things for book two.

While my mind is covering that, I’m also writing a few other things. I’m crazy like that. One story is called Reckless. A woman takes a huge leap of faith and crosses the country for a death defying stunt man. She learns to live life only to figure out she had been really reckless with hers.

Another work in progress is “Critical Access.” It’s a medical romance/comedy. I couldn’t help it, I’m a nurse!

JET: Thank you so much for taking the time to chat on my blog.  Folks, you can find out more about Melissa Mayberry and her work at the following places:  http://melissamayberry.com

Thank you for swinging in today,

The Death Chronicles Book One: Don't Fear the Reaper

Novel Concept Publishing, LLC's newest release: Don't Fear the Reaper is now available on Amazon.

The day Nick Ramsay’s eighth-grade teacher drops dead in his classroom, Nick sees his first reaper. When another cloaked figure appears at his grandmother’s bedside, Nick issues an order for the vile creature to leave her alone.

This simple act of defiance creates a domino effect that brings Fate and Death to Nick’s door and reveals his true lineage, throwing his world into chaos. To make matters worse, a group of rogue reapers declares war on humanity and Nick is the only one who can stop them.

Excerpt From Don't Fear the Reaper:

The first time I saw a reaper, I thought I had fallen asleep in class again.

Mr. Sanchez was in the middle of reaming out Clyde for not having his homework for the hundredth time this year and mid-yell, his red face turned purple and he clutched his chest. When Mr. Sanchez fell to his knees, the sight of the black cloaked figure behind him nearly gave me a heart attack. My chest burned with the sudden rush of adrenaline and my throat tingled around the scream that begged to erupt, but I clamped my lips closed.

His silver gaze peered out of the hooded darkness, staring directly at me, like he knew I could see him. His bony hand reached out and came to rest on Mr. Sanchez’s head. The rotund teacher’s grey eyes rolled back and his breath wheezed from his half-open mouth.

“Call nine-one-one!” The cry broke my paralysis and I bolted to the front of the room, trying to recall the CPR instructions I had in health class last year. Thirty chest compressions then blow in the victim’s mouth. The silent instructions replayed in my head and I went into action.

It wasn’t until the E.M.T.s wheeled the dead body of Mr. Sanchez out of the room that Julia took my hand for support.

“Nick, you tried,” Julia said.

I looked into her golden brown eyes and that’s when I knew it wasn’t a dream. Her warm hand, her soft, teary voice, cracked through my defenses and I started to shake. “I couldn’t stop him from taking Mr. Sanchez.”

“Stop who?”

I opened my mouth to speak but before the words could tumble out, I snapped my lips closed. She was already looking at me like I had a few screws loose and this would only topple that look into the realm of disbelief. I didn’t want her to think I was any crazier than she already did. I turned away, wiping my misting eyes on my sleeve.

“Stop who?” she repeated, taking my arm and swinging me toward her.

“Death, who do you think?” I snapped, my tone harsher than I wanted, harsher than I meant to be and she recoiled. “I couldn’t stop death,” I said, softening my tone and taking a deep breath to cool my nerves. “I couldn’t stop Mr. Sanchez from dying.”

Before she could speak, the PA system whined into action. “Dylan Nicholas Ramsay, please come to the office.”

Aw, crap. What does Principal Murdock want now? I hung my head, grinding my teeth together for a moment as anger wiped away any trace of despair. “I gotta go,” I said to Julia and stepped out of her grip, trudging toward the office wondering just what Principal Murdock was going to lay on me this time. Was he going to throw that sappy sad expression at me again, the one that always made me feel like a lost reject? The look that made me feel like crap.

Mr. Murdock offered a tight smile when I entered the office. “Nick, how are you holding up?”

Jeesh, how the hell do you think I’m holding up? I just saw my teacher die. “I’m fine, sir.”

“I think you should talk with Mrs. Lambert for a spell,” Mr. Murdock said and delivered the look I expected.

“I said I’m okay.”

Mr. Murdock raised one of his wooly-mammoth eyebrows. “I understand you were yelling the entire time you were trying to revive Mr. Sanchez.”

Shock slammed into my chest, drying my mouth and shooting tingling waves over my skin. “Wh-what?”

“A few of the other students said you were yelling at someone or something while you were doing CPR.”

“I, uh, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I knew I was cussing the hell out of the reaper, but I didn’t realize I was swearing out loud.

Special Guest Spotlight: Dishing with J.A. Todd

Today, I have the pleasure of dishing it up with special guest J.A. Todd, author of The Boy in the Back Row, which was released yesterday. Jim is a native of California, and now calls Atlanta his home. A graduate of Duke University and former naval aviator, he now works with a Fortune 100 company as a Lean Six Sigma expert on two multi-billion dollar programs. Over the course of his lifetime, he has experienced several brushes with death. He imbues his stories with the thoughts and feelings we often ponder when the world is fast asleep and we’re alone in the dark with just our thoughts—all alone.

JET: Can you tell us about The Boy in the Back Row?

J. A. Todd: Thanks, Jane. In The Boy in the Back Row, eight year-old Danny Christopher awakens from a near death experience with the power to raise the dead. When he unknowingly resurrects one of Hell’s prized souls—a notorious contract killer—Hell unleashes the Dark One to reclaim its property and deal with the boy. But three unlikely heroes— a repentant hit man, a guilt-ridden school teacher and a meek businessman—risk their lives to protect the innocent boy whose destiny will ultimately change the world.

Meanwhile in the Negev Desert, an ancient ruin stirs with dark foreboding when a mysterious seal is unearthed and burns a timid businessman with its divine mark—powerful enough to shake the foundations of Hell but useless unless he confronts his own demons.

When Danny resurrects a politically connected attorney, a video of the extraordinary event is broadcast around the world. Her killers—members of a secret, global drug cartel—suffer intolerable embarrassment at the woman’s resurrection. Threatened by the young dead raiser, they draw him out of hiding when a high value target—the country’s beloved First Lady—is assassinated.

With brutal gunmen on their heels and Hell’s Dark One closing in, a deadly showdown climaxes between Good and Evil, but not without unexpected consequences. These events trigger the prophetic countdown toward the end of the world or perhaps a new beginning.

JET: What drew you to paranormal thrillers?

J. A. Todd: I’ve always been fascinated with the supernatural even as a child. I grew up in a haunted house, which is fertile ground for a young boy’s imagination. There’s a certain fascination about the paranormal and the possibility of something existing beyond the veil of death.

JET: What’s been your most challenging hurdle on the road to publication?

J. A. Todd: Okay… this one’s an easy answer. It’s the discipline of writing and having the internal fortitude to shut the door and stare at a blank computer screen until the words flow. Talk about self-doubt, I’m sure every writer experiences this countless times in their career.

JET: What was your favorite moment in the journey?

J. A. Todd: Another great question. For me, it’s when I feel “in the zone”. Every writer feels it, I’m sure. For me, it didn’t come for five or six weeks after I began writing my first manuscript. But when it happens, it’s magical. I feel I’m “one” with my story and the hours of writing literally fly by.

JET: Which authors had the most influence over you growing up?

J. A. Todd: At the top of my list are Dean Koontz and Stephen King.

JET: When did you know you wanted to take the plunge into the writing world?

J. A. Todd: About thirty years ago, I suppose. And now that I’m writing nearly every day, I’ve discovered one immutable fact that the closest we ever come to being like God is when we’re creating something. And isn’t that what we’re doing when we write? Aren’t we creating our own worlds?

JET: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of book research? Most interesting fact you uncovered?

J. A. Todd: There is one section in my book where my main characters take a dangerous road trip from Atlanta to DC to save the First Lady. On a lark, I decided to drive the same route from Atlanta to DC, retracing my characters’ steps through the District, all the way up to the Capitol steps. It was a bit eerie to be quite honest, because I felt at times that my characters were real. What a feeling!

JET: Of all the novels and stories you’ve written - which one is your favorite? Why?

J. A. Todd: The Boy in the Back Row is my first published novel so that limits the playing field, I would say.

JET: Any advice for the novices out there?

J. A. Todd: Yes. Have faith in the discipline of writing and never waiver from your passion to create new worlds through your words. It’s as close as we can come to being god-like.

JET: All right - now that I’ve hammered you with the big questions, let’s tackle my favorite (and geeky) quick ten…starting with…Paper or Plastic?

J. A. Todd: Paper.

JET: Steak or Tofu?

J. A. Todd: Steak. I’m a carnivore.

JET: Beach or Mountains?

J. A. Todd: My favorite would be mountains. I enjoy the serenity and the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning.

JET: Country or Rock-n-Roll?

J. A. Todd: Geeze…I really couldn’t say. I love both.

JET: Coffee or Tea?

J. A. Todd: Most definitely coffee.

JET: Zombies or Demons?

J. A. Todd: Zombies.

JET: Top 10 best seller or Unknown Back Shelf Find?

J. A. Todd: I am especially fond of Suzanne Collin’s trilogy on The Hunger Games. Her writing is simple but she’s a master at spinning a good yarn. I love her description—not too much and not too little—that draws me into her world and makes it believable.

JET: Sword wielding ninja or Gun toting momma?

J. A. Todd: Gun toting momma, especially if she has a vulnerable side.

JET: Silent Film Classics or Cheesy B Rated Horror?

J. A. Todd: This is a no brainer: Silent film classics. It was the beginning of a new art form.

JET: 2012 Mayan Prophecy Believer or Ain’t Gonna Happen?

J. A. Todd: Hmmm… I’ll give you my answer on the morning of December 22nd.

JET: Thank you for indulging me. Before we wrap this up, can you tell us what you're working on now? What's next?

J. A. Todd: I’m working on the second story in the trilogy of The Boy in the Back Row. I’m also beginning work on a third manuscript entitled Eddie and Esther. I might describe it as a cross between Cocoon and Night at the Museum.

JET: Thank you so much for taking the time to chat on my blog. Folks, you can find out more about J.A. Todd over at http://www.novelconceptpublishing.com/.

You can purchase The Boy in the Back Row in e-book form at the following places:

Manic Monday Special Guest Ashlynne Laynne

Today I have a special guest on my blog. Ashlynne Laynne has agreed to come on and chat about her latest book coming out this week.

JET: Can you tell us about The Progeny?

Ashlynne: At its core, The Progeny is simply a story about a man and woman who fall in love. It started as research about the Salem witch trials, some rough sketches of a special family heirloom that my guys would wear and two names—Ascher and Shauna. In the beginning, of the book, Ascher is grumpy. Frankly, who could blame him? He’s engaged to seal to Ursula—a cold and careless vampire who wants nothing more than to get her hands on a bloodstone— and he feels conflicted about his existence. All of that changes when he meets Shawnette McCutchin. She’s beautiful, intriguing and possesses some of the most potent blood that he’s ever smelled. A war immediately begins inside Ascher. He craves her blood just as much as he craves her body and the closer they get the harder it is for him to control his urges. After Ascher calls off the sealing to Ursula, the trouble begins. The peaceful period essentially ends when Ursula’s army attacks the Rousseaus. Throw in a kidnapping and Wiccan rage and the plot is complete.

JET: What drew you to paranormal romance?

Ashlynne: I’ve always loved stories and movies about witches and I, admittedly, have a soft spot in my heart for vampires. I grew tired of the garlic fearing, sun loathing creatures of old. An avid horror movie fan, I tend to enjoy media and music that is of a younger, more eclectic nature. This was the catalyst for my writing The Progeny. The vampire/witch pairing is unique and different when most paranormal media pairs them with werewolves. The infinite possibilities, for such a wicked couple, intrigued me. I like to think of Ascher and Shauna as the damned version of Romeo and Juliet with supernatural gifts.

JET: What’s been your most challenging hurdle on the road to publication?

Ashlynne: Finding a publisher that I was comfortable with. I turned down one larger publisher and a smaller one because they didn’t feel good to me. The Progeny was my baby and you don’t just let anyone babysit your child. I wanted my baby to be in good and capable hands. I found those hands at NCP. My characters and ideas have been respected, nurtured and I’ve been encouraged throughout the process—all of the things I knew that my story deserved.

JET: What was your favorite moment in the journey?

Ashlynne: The moment that I got the email of acceptance from NCP. I really wanted to be a part of this publishing family. It just felt like the place that my baby belonged.

JET: Which authors had the most influence over you growing up?

Ashlynne: As a pre-teen, I adored Judy Blume books. Their personal approach spoke to me on a deep and profound level. As an older teen, I loved V.C. Andrews. I’m also a poet and have loved the insightful works of Maya Angelou. When I was sixteen, I discovered Danielle Steel novels (I now realize that I wasn’t the target age group for the books I was reading, but this spurred my love of romance novels). As an adult, I’m wild for anything Stephen King or Kresley Cole but I love a good vampire or witch story.

JET: When did you know you wanted to take the plunge into the writing world?

Ashlynne: I got serious about my writing career a year ago.

JET: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of book research? Most interesting fact you uncovered?

Ashlynne: I spent three hours researching gestation and mating habits of mice for part of The Progeny’s back story. I learned that they have a twenty day gestation. I doubt I’ll ever use that knowledge again but it was worth it for the two or three lines it generated.

JET: Of all the novels and stories you’ve written - which one is your favorite? Why?

Ashlynne: The Progeny, of course. For some reason, this story and the characters are very near and dear to my heart.

JET: Any advice for the novices out there?

Ashlynne: Don’t give up and write as often as possible.

JET: All right - now that I’ve hammered you with the big questions, let’s tackle my favorite (and geeky) quick ten…starting with…Paper or Plastic?

Ashlynne: paper

JET: Steak or Tofu?

Ashlynne: tofu

JET: Beach or Mountains?

Ashlynne: beach

JET: Country or Rock-n-Roll?

Ashlynne: rock-n-roll

JET: Leather or Lace?

Ashlynne: leather

JET: Angels or Demons?

Ashlynne: Both. Yin has to balance Yang.

JET: Paper or Digital?

Ashlynne: digital

JET: Silent Film Classics or Cheesy B Rated Horror?

Ashlynne: cheesy b rated horror

JET: Twilight or True Blood

Ashlynne: True Blood

JET: Coffee or Tea?

Ashlynne: Yuck…neither.

JET: Thank you for indulging me. Before we wrap this up, can you tell us what you're working on now? What's next?

Ashlynne: I’m currently working on the sequel to The Progeny that promises just as much steam and romance as the first with some very special parties you won’t want to miss.

Welcome 2012

Happy New Year everyone!

2012.  Wow.  Time sure does fly.

Usually I have a list of resolutions when the new year rolls around, but this year, I resolve not to have a list of items that in a month or so will just wither away to nothing.

Goals are a completely different thing all together and I do have set goals for 2012.

They're simple. In 2012, I want to finish and publish three novels this year and have at least that many authors signed and their books released through Novel Concept Publishing.

I'd like to see my sales continue to bring in steady income like they have for the past two months.

Personally, my goal this year is to spend more time with my family and not every free second on the computer doing marketing and promotion and other writing related things - okay, that falls into more of a resolution category, but it is a goal.

Balance is key and this year my goal is to find it.

So now that I've shared my goals, let's hear what your goals and resolutions are.  Come on, don't be shy...

My Christmas letter...

Hi folks!  Can you believe the holidays are already upon us?  My gosh this year went by in a blink.

2011 has been crazy for weather here on the east coast!
Record-breaking snow in January.
A tornado in May.
Record heat in July.
A hurricane in September that knocked out power and closed schools.
And a historic blizzard that knocked out power lines all over Connecticut just in time for Halloween.
And no sign of a white Christmas.  :-(

Not your average year by any means and along with these memorable weather events came some of our own family memories.

My daughter turned sixteen this year and had a hell of a birthday bash. She got a job at the local Friendly’s soon after her birthday in March and continues to work and dance and have a generally crazy schedule this school year. She hasn’t gotten her license yet because of her crazy schedule but we’re hoping she can fit the required classes in between now and the end of January and have her license before she turns seventeen.

My son has been just as busy as my daughter. Between basketball, baseball Jukido and guitar lessons, he's one busy boy. He earned a blue belt this year in Jukido this year and is looking forward to getting to the next level. He also asked me to write a book with him this year and what a blast to be able to get into my son's twelve-year-old mind!  He has some very intriguing ideas and I've had the joy of teaching him how to flush them out and create something fascinating.  We're hoping to get the first installment of The Death Chronicles out in 2012.
My husband has been having fun with his pool league and playing paint ball with the neighbors in the spring and fall when we aren’t making the trek to our summer place. During the summer we live for the weekends on the beach and it was a challenge this year with my daughter's work schedule, but we still had time to enjoy Maine. Now that the season is over, we’re focused on the holidays and trying not to get hung up with the mental countdown to opening day in May.  Our day jobs have kept us on our toes too and my husband got some well deserved accolades at work - he was honored with a service excellence award this year.

As for me, it's been a busy year on the writing front. Beyond releasing three novels and two short story anthologies, I took the plunge into the publishing realm this year with a writing colleague of mine. Jason Halstead and I opened the doors to Novel Concept Publishing, LLC in May and we’ve been blessed with some stellar submissions. As of December 23, 2011, we have three published authors under our label with two more queued up for early in 2012. I can’t begin to tell you how fulfilling it is to help another author hone their book into a sharp captivating story and see it published. The only thing that has outshines that experience was hitting the number one spot on Amazon’s Horror/Occult list in November. Now we just need to get our authors to that acclaimed milestone…

On that note, I bid farewell to 2011 and want to wish you all a happy and healthy 2012!
