Firsts...

Firsts…

We always remember our first time.

Our first kiss.
Our first love.
Our first child.

All the checkpoints in life that become special memories.

For a writer, another first that is emblazoned in our memory is the first time a story or book was accepted.

It’s an indescribable thrill. A validation that we don’t suck and all the time and effort spent alone with our computers away from our family and friends is actually worthwhile.

My first was in May of 2008 when Niteblade accepted my short story Nightmares for the December 2008 edition. I can still remember opening the email and doing a little dance at my computer. I think I actually squeaked with happiness.

That acceptance fueled me to continue writing, to hone my craft and to take a chance at submitting my longer works to independent publishers and within six months of that publication, my first novel was accepted.

I’d love to hear about a special first in your life…

In the meantime, check out these Niteblade Blogtrain posts before and after mine…
Yesterday (August 9th post) http://jamesdorrwriter.wordpress.com "The Niteblade Blog Train, What's That? -- Jazzy Vampires,"

http://authoraubrie.blogspot.ca/ scheduled for tomorrow - August 11

Thanks for hanging with me for a bit.

And if you’re game, check out Don’t Fear the Reaper, the first book in The Death Chronicles series that I wrote with my twelve-year-old son!

The day Nick Ramsay’s eighth-grade teacher drops dead in his classroom, Nick sees his first reaper. When another cloaked figure appears at his grandmother’s bedside, Nick issues an order for the vile creature to leave her alone.

This simple act of defiance creates a domino effect that brings Fate and Death to Nick’s door and reveals his true lineage, throwing his world into chaos. To make matters worse, a group of rogue reapers declares war on humanity and Nick is the only one who can stop them.

You can purchase the book here on Amazon.

Thanks for stopping by!
Until next time,
Ciao.

Hi JET,

A neat blog, and inspirational, though there is one error due to a switching of schedule. Marge Simon's guest blog was moved (moved back, actually, since it's a reversion to an earlier schedule) to August 15 and the blog that precedes this is the one by James Dorr, "The Niteblade Blog Train, What's That? -- Jazzy Vampires," which can be reached at http://jamesdorrwriter.wordpress.com

James - I'm so sorry about that - I thought I had the latest revision - well this is now updated. So folks - hop on over to James's blog!

Sorry about that confusion JET, but thank you so much for participating in this blog train and for being a part of Niteblade.

I really enjoyed Nightmares and was super pleased to share it with our readers. Reading this story about how happy you were to get that acceptance makes me smile.

Rhonda - if you had sent me the payment by mail instead of via paypal - I would have framed it. That's how over the moon I was about getting that first acceptance. :)

JET, thanks for the update. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, but I was out. As for the confusion, these things happen and no real harm done -- but thank you especially for the quick fix!

JET and Rhonda, I ought to mention I was in touch with Marge S. yesterday too (we're buddies from way back), so she's on board with the current schedule too. (In fact, for differing reasons the change seems to have worked well in both our favors.)

Aren't those moments a thrill? And I have a lot of weird things framed in my office (I completely get you.) :) If it fits under glass, frame it!

Being a part of Niteblade is a frameable moment, too, and Rhonda makes each of us feel like rockstars.

I'm loving this blog train because I can't wait to read about everyone eles's frameable moments.

Cheers, Ash
