Being Alpha Cover Reveal!

Being Alpha

Newly-Minted Regional Alpha, Aeson Silverman hit the jackpot. Power, prestige, and wealth, he’s got everything a wolf-shifter could ask for.

Or so he thought…

Being the Alpha is not the playboy lifestyle he’d imagined. Despite devastatingly good looks and an impressive wit, he can’t seem to get Emma MacBride, the hottie doctor from another pack, to give him the time of day.

Unfortunately a bruised ego is only the beginning of Aeson’s troubles.

Someone has been poisoning the minds of other territorial Alphas, systematically pitting neighbor against neighbor. And the moment he takes control of the Long Teeth territory the rising storm of dissension finds a way into his pack.

Allying himself with the powerful Olde Town pack, Ace chooses comradery over aggression and invites warring neighbors to join him for a meeting to establish peace.

Diplomacy comes with a reward earning him a date with the elusive doctor MacBride.
But every choice the young Alpha makes is under scrutiny and when his peaceful summit ends with the death of a high ranking wolf, the fate of his pack and his leadership hangs in the balance.

Preorder the upcoming novel in the Olde Town Pack today and get rewarded with a bonus #Free prequel novella.

If you haven't met the wolves of the Olde Town or their allies the Silverman wolves of the Little Werewolf series, now is the time to get reading.

Coming October 27th the fifth installment of the Chronicles will take us into dangerous new territory and bring back another much loved character from Book 1!!
I'm eagerly anticipating the release of this one and have a little sample to share with all of you. So, without further ado, here it is... For your eyes only, today,...

Chronicles of the Uprising -Book 5
Retribution
Immortality is never guaranteed...

As much as she dreams of a simpler existence, blood and violence are Mira’s way of life. Former gladiator turned freedom fighter; she’s carved a trail from New Haven to Caldera Grove and back, freeing her people, the vampires, from enslavement by the humans.

But with victory almost within reach, a new and powerful enemy emerges. One who’ll be satisfied with nothing less than complete subjugation—or destruction—of all supernatural beings.

With a secret army of his own, he’s more than prepared for any resistance Mira and her patchy rebel forces can offer, and demands their immediate surrender.
Never one to back away from a fight, Mira believes she’s ready for anything. But with the battle lines drawn she will be forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Kill or be killed.

Crouching low, Mira pulled the sword up over her head, and quickly swiped down in a sharp arc. Instantly at one with her weapon, she began the training dance, moving fluidly forward in a deadly ballet with her invisible opponent. Spinning and twirling while slashing the air with her blade she hardly noticed the other presence in the room. It was only when her sword met with resistance and the loud clang of metal on metal, brought her back to reality that she saw who was there.
“Careful, princess, might take someone’s head off,” Justine smirked. Her own twin blades at the ready, she stepped back and fell into a fighting stance.
Last time Mira had come up against Justine, she’d been unskilled, weak, and defenseless. She was none of those things now.
“Are we doing this?” She smirked, happy to have an opponent worthy of sparring with.
“You made the challenge. So, bring it.”
That she had. Back in the council chamber. And though her anger had cooled since then, she was ready and willing to prove herself. Mira rotated the sword in her hand a few times to loosen up her wrist and without warning brought the blade up hard at Justine.
Twin daggers ready, Justine met the incoming sword with both her blades, crossing them as she pulled back quickly. “Oh you are aiming to kill, aren’t you? What’s got you all riled up?”
“You know very well.” Mira spun on her heel and used the momentum to slash at Justine as she came around. “The futility of our situation.”
“Oh yeah, we’re fucked.” Tip of the sword barely missing Justine’s face, she deflected with the dagger in her right hand. “But you didn’t have to take a human’s side.”
“It’s not taking sides to recognize reason.”
“Humans are never reasonable.”
“I’m going to choose to ignore that.”
“You’re ignoring a lot these days.” It was Justine’s turn to advance, taking advantage of Mira’s wide swings she closed in and jammed her blade in Mira’s side. “Don’t forget what they did to us.”
Hissing in pain, Mira brought the pommel of her sword down against Justine’s head and shoved her back.
The blade hurt just as much going out as it had going in. Mira clutched her wounded side as she eyed Justine licking the blood from her dagger and reset into a fighting stance.
“I have not forgotten the bad or the good.” Mira lunged forward. The tip of her blade made contact, but Justine did not cry out in pain. She leaned away and deflected the blade with her daggers. It might not have gone deep, but Mira saw blood. She smiled at her small accomplishment.
“It’s only a scratch.” Justine huffed, looking at the wound already beginning to heal. “Don’t get cocky.”
 “You want more?” Mira taunted.
“Can you do more? Where is this great warrior everyone talks about?”
It shouldn’t have bothered her, but Mira had her reputation for a reason, and hearing those words compounded the rage boiling inside her. She attacked with a fury reserved normally for those who were going to die. Had she been fighting anyone but Justine, they might have. Speed of lightning, Mira moved with deadly precision bringing the sword down and around Justine’s head as if she meant to take it off. Only fast reflexes and sixty years of gladiator battles had given Justine the skills to avoid decapitation.
“You know what your problem is?” Justine taunted, twisting her blades around in her hands and bouncing on the balls of her feet.
Mira reset, watching her opponent, anticipating the attack that would come. “Enlighten me?”
Justine ducked low and swiped at Mira’s stomach. The blade failed to meet its mark by scant inches. “You’re a great big baby.”
“Funny.”
Justine deflected Mira’s responding swipe of the sword and reset again for her next attack. “It wasn’t a joke.”
“Did you come here just to piss me off?”
“I came to see if it was worth sticking around.”
“What?”
“You know, when I saw you, the great savior, as I entered New Haven, I was proud. I remembered that weak, pathetic little girl running away from mommy and daddy. She never should have survived.”
“But I did.”
“Yes… but how? Because this person I see here, she’s not a survivor. She’s still that weak little girl.”
“I’ll show you weak.” She backed Justine almost to the edge of the arena with a fury of wild swings.
“Oh, so you do have some balls.” Having hit the far wall, Justine ducked and pivoted around Mira’s blade coming out behind her and sliding her knife around to Mira’s neck. She whispered in her ear. “C’mon then, warrior. Fight back like you mean it.”
Justine wasn’t looking for a sparring match, it seemed all she cared to do this evening was piss Mira off, and she’d done just that. “I’m tired. We’re done here.”
Justine laughed. “Tired? Tired? You’re tired? For sixty years I’ve done one thing. The one thing I told you to do. You’re tired. Then go off and die, because you don’t deserve to survive.”
“I did not earn my reputation for nothing.”
“But you’re still not the true warrior I’d expected.”
Mira took in a deep breath, feeling the edge of the blade against her throat. “Sorry to disappoint.”
“How can you be so pathetic?” Justine released Mira with a shove.
“Excuse me?”
“You have it all, princess. You’re the savior. You’ve got adoring fans, freedom, and the love of a very hot wolfman, and still you’re moping about. Oh poor you.”
“You call worrying over the survival of the people I just freed, moping?”
“Yeah, because your pissing time away in meetings instead of just fixing the problem. You know as well as I do that the only way to kill a beast is to cut off the head.”
“It’s not as simple as that. Or were you not paying attention in the meeting?”
“Yeah. I heard a lot of whining and crying over people who might die. Just fucking do something.”
“I can’t risk the lives of innocents.”
“You’re already doing it by doing nothing. Get out there and fix it.”
Justine, as usual had hit the root of the problem. But it was precisely that which had them all stalled in committee.”
“You’ve got problems. We’ve all got problems. Everyone wants to live their happy little life, but right now, it’s not an option. Suck it up, princess. Do something about it.”
“I am doing something.” What more did she expect? Mira had said her peace in the meetings and had been overshadowed by Lucian and Stryker’s plan. All she could do was hold tight.
“No, you’re wasting time waiting for others to do things. Story of your life. You want to be this independent person, in control, and all the while, you’re letting others decide what happens in your life. I’ll bet you haven’t even taken that wolf of yours to bed. You’re waiting until he forces you past your extremely obvious intimacy issues.”
“That’s none of your concern.” She was dangerously close to crossing the line. Mira tightened her grip on the sword.
“Or how about the human who’s pining away for you.”
“Again, none of your concern,” Mira’s voice became dangerously quiet. She was moments from losing her patience.
“We’ll if you won’t take him, I will.”
“Have the human.” That will be the day!
“And the wolf too. I’d give him more than enough reason to leave your crybaby ass behind.”
“You go too far.”
Justine threw the dagger in her left hand, burring it deep into Mira’s chest. “So teach me a lesson, great warrior.”
Mira fell to her knees with a groan. Pawing at her chest to remove the blade.
“How ever did you survive?” Justine spat at Mira. “Maybe I’ll just take that wolfman as my prize for killing you.”

Secret Worlds Author Spotlight: Katie Salidas

SECRET WORLDS available for only 99 for a limited time! Get your copy now!

KINDLE | NOOK | KOBO | iBOOKS

Today, I'd like to welcome Katie Salidas to my blog.

Katie Salidas, author of the Immortalis series (Urban Fantasy), Consummate Therapy series (Erotica), and the recently released Chronicles of the Uprising (Dystopian) is a Jill of all Trades. She’s a Super Woman endowed with special powers and abilities, beyond those of other mortals. Katie can get the munchkins off to gymnastics, cheerleading, Girl Scouts, and swim lessons; put hot food on the table, assist with homework, baths, and bedtime… And, she still finds the time to keep the hubby happy (nudge nudge wink wink). She can do all of this and still have time to write.

And if you can believe all of those lies, there is some beautiful swamp land in Florida for sale…

Katie Salidas resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mother to three, Wife to one, and slave to the craft of writing, she does try to do it all, often causing sleep deprivation and many nights passed out at the computer. Writing is her passion, and she hopes that her passion will bring you hours of entertainment.

JET: Can you tell us about your most recent book?

Moonlight is one of those fun little novellas that lets you explore the change from a not so sudden viewpoint. Fallon has to consciously make the decision to go wolf for her man and the pack he is set to lead, or leave him alone forever. The stakes get higher when there are others vying for the spot as Alpha’s mate. It’s full of energy, twists, and lots of hot sex with a werewolf!!

JET: What drew you to (genre)?
I’ve always loved anything paranormal. I think it’s the addition of creatures that are not human that do it for me. I can truly escape normal life when I am reading or writing about creatures that are not supposed to exist.

JET: What’s been your most challenging hurdle on the road to publication?
Myself. I am constantly having to learn to step out of my comfort zone and “just do it” as the saying goes. It takes a lot to put yourself via your work out there for people to read and hopefully enjoy. I’ve done it many many times but the anxiety never lessens. Then when you add signings, readings, and any other form of public relations to it and I am ready to run screaming for the hills. Seriously, introvert is my middle name.

JET: What was your favorite moment in the journey?
That moment, after publishing, when you see that first positive review. That’s when you know you’ve done your job well and everything is okay. LoL!

JET: Which authors had the most influence over you growing up?
I have always been a fan of paranormal, vampires and werewolves in particular. Anne Rice, Christine Feehan, Patricia Briggs, LJ Smith, I could run this list for a while, so I’ll stop there.

JET: When did you know you wanted to take the plunge into the writing world?
I’ve always written stories. But, it wasn’t until I was laid off in 2009 than I decided to finally hit publish on the book I’d spent the five years before that writing. Since then I have been at it non-stop!

JET: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of book research? Most interesting fact you uncovered?
Researching the decay rates of the human body was probably the grossest thing I have ever researched, but it was interesting. The things you have to know when a rogue vampire starts leaving their dinner behind…

JET: Of all the novels and stories you’ve written - which one is your favorite? Why?
The Chronicles of the Uprising, first book, Dissension is my new favorite! I am truly in love with Mira. She’s such a spunky character. This series takes everything you have ever known about vampires and society and throws it all away. A true departure from standard Paranormal or Post-Apocalyptic. And writing all the books in this series has been so much fun.

JET: Any advice (from a writer’s standpoint) for the novices out there?
Just keep Writing. Practice makes perfect, so keep it up. Don’t talk about it, do it!

JET: All right - now that I’ve hammered you with the big questions, let’s tackle my favorite (and geeky) quick ten...starting with Paper or Plastic?
Plastic. I know, so not eco-friendly, but I use the heck out of plastic bags.

JET: Steak or Tofu?
Steak!

JET: Beach or Mountains?
Beach!

JET: Country or Rock-n-Roll?
Rock-n-Roll

JET: Leather or Lace?
Leather

JET: Angels or Demons?
Demons

JET: Paper or Digital?
Digital

JET: Silent Film Classics or Cheesy B Rated Horror?
Cheesy Horror

JET: Twilight or True Blood?
True Blood

JET: Coffee or Tea?
Tea

JET: Thank you for indulging me. Before we wrap this up, can you tell us what you're working on now? What's next?
I’ve been on a werewolf kick lately, so I’m letting myself explore the creature with a bit of a YA flair. The next book I have due to release is called Pretty Little Werewolf and shows us the cunning ingenuity of a lone wolf in a pack world.

Thank you so much for taking the time to chat on my blog. Folks, you can find out more about Katie Salidas and her work at the following places:

Spotlight on Submission Therapy

Billionaire CEO of Blakely Incorporated, Natasha runs her empire with an eagle eye for every detail. She’s an obsessive, compulsive, micromanaging hard-ass, consumed by the need to control every aspect of her life and her business.

But underneath that seemingly strong façade, Natasha is a swirling mess of anger, anxiety and sexual addiction. Only her therapist, Dr. Benson, knows how close she is to burning out...or exploding. He insists on a radical form of treatment – Submission Therapy – knowing that it’s her only hope.

Skeptical but intrigued, Natasha agrees to attend the first session. What she finds there is an erotically-charged environment that will forgive none of her habitual bad behavior. And a steely-eyed man who seems to read her every desire - even the ones she won’t admit to herself.

Will Natasha learn what it means to submit? Or will she allow her brittle pride to rob her of what she truly needs?

You can find Submission Therapy on AmazonAmazon UK, All Romance Ebooks, Smashwords, and Excessica

Submission Therapy EXCERPT:   © November 2012 by Willsin Rowe and Katie Salidas

“You really should change that painting on your wall, Derek.”

“Natasha, I’ve asked you many times to call me Dr. Benson.” He leaned over and checked his notes, then jotted something down. Probably a remark about my attitude. It wouldn’t be the first time, and it damn sure won’t be the last.

“No doubt you have, Derek.”

For a shrink, he really seemed stuck on formality, for whatever reason. Some people’s lives are just so petty. I flicked my hand toward the gauche painting in question. “I mean, it’s not calming at all. Thick daubs of acrylic that look like cellulite on the canvas. And what’s with the oranges and blues together? That’s just insane.”

Dr. Benson didn’t appear to get the joke. Simpleton. He pushed his bookish glasses up on his long narrow nose and glared. “Natasha, I’ve been seeing you for a year, now.” His tone was laced with disappointment. “And you’ve made no progress. No change.” He sat back in his vinyl chair. “None at all.”

“Yep, got it, Derek.” I blocked out his face with my watch for a second. The man could talk! I had four meetings scheduled for this afternoon.

He flipped his notebook and it closed with an unusually loud snap. “You’re still control-dependent, and we’ve made no headway with your addiction to sex either.”

I could recite this lecture word for word now. Time was money and these sessions were already costing me too much of both. Apparently with no results to show for them.

I stood and smoothed my skirt. Derek may be a psychiatrist, but he’s still a man. A straight man, judging by the way his eyes scanned my legs. Too bad for him. If he weren’t just a dull, if handsome, shrink, I might have used him for some much-needed stress relief. He could call it addiction all he liked, but for me it was head and shoulders above these damn therapy sessions.

“Well, Derek. Thanks for a wonderful year. I can’t tell you much I’ve enjoyed losing two valuable hours each week, all for nothing.”

He smiled congenially but the strain in his voice was apparent. “If you’d done the exercises as I instructed, you’d have lost six hours.”

I dug my cellphone out of my Louis Vuitton Olive Monogram Antheia Leather Hobo. “Which is why I didn’t.”

“Which is why you’ve failed at therapy and why you are failing at life.”

The deadpan delivery of those words shocked me. Taken aback, I sucked in a breath and, for a moment, considered throwing my phone straight at his stupid smiling face.

“What the fuck did you just say? Have you seen the size of my house? My portfolio of investments? And I’ve failed? If anything it’s you who’s failed, Derek. You’re supposed to cure me.”

Derek folded his arms. “Natasha, we’ve discussed this rudeness of yours.”

“I’m not being rude; I’m being efficient, getting right to the head of the matter, which is your lack of results.”

“There’s a difference between efficiency and rudeness, Natasha, and you are being—”

I dialed Simon’s number. “Bring the car around.” Then snapped my phone closed and turned to leave.

“Natasha?”

“Derek, I don’t want to appear...efficient, but I have places to be.”

He surprised me by rushing to the door and blocking my exit. I was unprepared for such animation. Standing there filling the doorframe with his arms crossed he almost appeared authoritative. In his khaki pants and black Oxford shirt, and with his blue eyes narrowed behind dark framed glasses he looked like he’d just passed Door Security 101. “So why are you still here?”

The unfamiliar steel of his voice seemed to carry a lilt of taunting. I nodded at the hallway behind him. “I’m hardly going to climb over you.”

“You know what I mean. Why haven’t you gone to yet another doctor?”

Because no-one else will take me. Because I’ve carved a sharp-tongued path through them all. No way I’d expose myself like that. Not to this nobody. He already had too much of me sitting in his notebooks. I pulled out my gold cigarette case and flipped it open. “I really don’t know.”

“Natasha, you can’t smoke in here.”

I rolled my eyes. Tiny lives with tiny rules. “Derek, my company owns this building. One of my companies, anyway.”

He produced a business card from his pocket. “This is it, Natasha. Your last chance.”

I glared at the card, but he didn’t waver. Just held it steady as I blew a stream of smoke into his face. Finally I took the thing and checked it over.

Room 112

Master Sweet

“I see your people are no better than mine. I should proof-read for you.”

Sadly, he didn’t rise to my taunting. He remained remarkably collected, delivering his deadpan statement. “Master Sweet is not a room.”

I tapped the ash from my cigarette into a potted plant by the door. “So what is it? Candy?”

“Radical therapy. I’ve tried the softly-softly, ‘tell me how that makes you feel’ method. It’s had no effect. Clearly you need a more hands-on approach.” He tapped the edge of the card in my hand. “And what you’ll find in that room will gel perfectly with your current…addictions.”

Katie Salidas One Day Book Blitz Tour

In honor of the release of Pandora’s Box, I’m letting Katie Salidas take over my blog for her One Day Book Blitz Tour…

When asked to write about a “day” in the life of a writer, I was stumped. I sat staring at the computer screen, watching the little cursor blink, mocking me as I wracked my brain, trying to recall what my “typical” day is like.

While writing is something I take very seriously and look at as my job, it almost never happens during the “day.” I can often be found bleary-eyed, late at night, clicking away at the keys of my laptop. Even us “Housewives” have day jobs. I’m a write-at-home-mom! The house doesn’t clean itself (oh God how I wish it did though), the laundry won’t fold itself … okay, you know where I’m going with this. Seriously though, daytime is when I work on the household stuff, do my critiquing group critiques and posts, and take care of business related things for Rising Sign Books.

As it is, the everyday minutia tends to take up the bulk of the daylight hours, leaving only the calm of the evening for me to “get a few words in.” Once my daughter is nestled all snug in her bed, that’s when the words spring out from my head.

So let’s start with that. I work nights. My shift starts promptly at 8pm. Until recently (we just found out we are expecting baby #2) I would crack open a can of redbull (the 12 oz one), open up my current manuscript, and get started. Now that baby #2 is on the way, that can of redbull has been exchanged for a more pregnancy-friendly beverage, water. And let me tell you, my writing production had gone way down since caffeine was removed from my diet. But, alas, we must soldier on!

8:30PM – While writing the start of a lusty scene between my two main characters, my email chimes. I’m a little OCD so I have to know what it is. (I know I should just leave my email closed… *sigh* I’ll never learn.) “Oooh Book Marketing tips. I need to know this!”

9:15PM – Email led to a quick pop over to facebook which led to a round of “poke wars” and three hundred updates. Whoops! I finally close both Thunderbird (email) and Firefox (internet) and realized I have only written one decent paragraph. Time to get back to work.

10:45PM – I need a synonym for ‘ethereal’ and a another bottle of water. After a quick stretch and run to the kitchen, I silently swear as I click open firefox. “only Thesaurus.com… no Facebook. No Twitter. No LinkedIn. No Myspace. No blogger…”

11:15PM - airy, celestial, spiritual, sublime, supernal, tenuous, unearthly, unworldly… See, I’m working. I wasn’t surfing the web. Promise.

11:30PM – Kiss Hubby goodnight. He reminds me to come to bed instead of falling asleep on the couch, no matter how late I finish work. (It’s a bit of a regular occurrence in our house) I swear I won’t fall asleep on the couch. “Scouts honor.”

12:00AM – Email chimes just as I finish up a rough draft on the lusty scene I’ve been working on. Perfect timing, an email from my critting buddy (many of them are up as late as me on a regular basis too). I’ll shoot over the pages I just wrote and see what they think.

12:30AM – Delete Delete Delete… Okay, bad Idea to send off something that rough. That scene was crap, but at least I heard it from a friend, right? Time to rewrite it and grab Redbull #2

12:35AM – Stare blankly at the ceiling, wondering if inspiration will strike. Oooh, was that my email again? Yay Facebook Updates! Oooh new Twitter followers. Awww, some poor man in Nigeria needs me to help him get his inheritance.

1:00AM –Maybe a change of location will help. It’s too late for a coffee shop but I’ve got a laptop I can at least get away from the desk. I hop over to the loveseat.

1:30AM – Back on track!! Words are flying from my fingers to the screen. Characters are falling madly in love. It’s getting hot and heavy in their bedroom… Boy, I use the word embrace a lot. I need a new word. Ut-oh… I silently swear as I click open Firefox. “only Thesaurus.com… no Facebook. No Twitter. No LinkedIn. No Myspace. No blogger…” I can be strong this time. I just know it.

2:30AM – How many versions of that farmer game are on Facebook now? Not that I was on Facebook… for that long. I mean, does the word snuggle sound too cute? What about nuzzle? Do vampires nuzzle? Hmmmm.

3:30AM – Things are really moving along. I’ve gotten 1k words into the rewrite on my love scene. Getting a little sleepy but I think I can hang until I get it finished.

7:00AM – Hubby wakes me up, looking very disappointed. I fell asleep on the couch again. Time to start another day. I promise I’ll sleep in my bed next time.

So there you have it, a typical day…er night… in my writing life. Thanks for reading, and if you want to check out my work, you can find me at http://www.katiesalidas.com/

Immortalis Carpe Noctem (Book 1)

Becoming a vampire is easy. Living with the condition... that's the hard part.

Bleeding to death after brutal mugging, twenty-five year old Alyssa is rescued by the most unlikely hero: the handsome and aloof vampire, Lysander.

His gift of immortal blood initiates Alyssa into a frightening, eternally dark world filled with: bloodlust, religious fanaticism, and thousand-year old vendettas.

With Lysander as her guide, Alyssa will have to learn what it takes to survive in the immortal world. She'll have to find the strength to accept her new reality and carpe noctem; or give in, and submit to final death.

Hunters & Prey (Book 2)

Becoming a vampire saved Alyssa from death, but the price was high: the loss of everything and everyone attached to her mortal life. She’s still learning to cope when a surprise confrontation with Santino Vitale, the Acta Sanctorum’s most fearsome hunter, sends her fleeing back to the world she once knew, and Fallon, the friend she’s missed more than anything.

Alyssa breaks vampire law by revealing her new, true self to her old friend, a fact which causes strong division in the group that should support her most: her clan.

Pandora’s Box (Book 3)

After a few months as a vampire, Alyssa thought she’d learned all she needed to know about the supernatural world. But her confidence is shattered by the delivery of a mysterious package – a Pandora’s Box.

Seemingly innocuous, the box is in reality an ancient prison, generated by a magic more powerful than anyone in her clan has ever known. But what manner of evil could need such force to contain it?

When the box is opened, the sinister creature within is released, and only supernatural blood will satiate its thirst. The clan soon learns how it feels when the hunter becomes the hunted.

Powerless against the ancient evil, the clan flees Las Vegas for Boston, with only a slim hope for salvation. Could Lysander’s old journals hold the key? And what if they don’t?

And how welcome will they be in a city run by a whole different kind of supernatural being?
