Secret Worlds Author Spotlight: Rebecca Hamilton

SECRET WORLDS available for only 99 for a limited time! Get your copy now!

Today, I’d like to welcome Rebecca Hamilton to my blog. Rebecca is a USA Today Bestselling Paranormal Fantasy author who also dabbles in Horror and Literary Fiction. She lives in Florida with her husband and four kids. She enjoys dancing with her kids to television show theme songs and would love the beach if it weren't for the sand. Having a child diagnosed with autism has inspired her to illuminate the world through the eyes of characters who see things differently. She is represented by Rossano Trentin of TZLA and has been published internationally, in three languages. You can follow her on twitter @InkMuse

JET: Can you tell us about your most recent book?
Most recently, I released the second book in my Forever Girl Series: COME, THE DARK. It follows a young girl who gets separated from her child and ends up centuries in the past—in the time of the Salem Witch Trials. She must defeat the dark spirits of that time to return to her daughter, but while she is there, she falls in love with her guide, which makes leaving to return to her daughter nearly impossible. The First Book in the series is available as part of the Secret Worlds boxed set—get it with twenty other titles for just $0.99!

JET: What drew you to paranormal and fantasy?
I’ve always been fascinated by magic—witches most of all. I read a lot of fantasy books as a child. Chronicles of Narnia was a big one for me. Then in high school, I started to have a love/hate relationship with the history of the Salem Witch Trials, which affects a lot of my writing. I loved it because it was the only part of history I found fascinating, but I hated it because of all the unjust things that were done during those times to innocent people.

JET: What’s been your most challenging hurdle on the road to publication?

Rewriting. Over and over and over again. It’s always my biggest hurdle. You think it would get easier, but for me, it never does. I think it has something to do with having four kids. It’s very hard to try to smooth things out across hundreds of pages *all at once* without being interrupted. But if I don’t do it all at once, I lose the “plot thread” that I was trying to unsnag, and the issue won’t get fixed.

JET: What was your favorite moment in the journey?
There’s no way I could pick just one! Every success means a great to me, whether it’s reading reviews from readers who loved my work (the most rewarding feeling ever!) or getting a new publishing contract or film contract. Every time I basically get that “vote of confidence” from someone in the book world, it’s my favorite moment.

JET: Which authors had the most influence over you growing up?
Probably Anne Rice J

JET: When did you know you wanted to take the plunge into the writing world?
I hate answering this question, because when I do so honestly, I look like a jack ass. But I’ll tell you the truth. I was reading (or trying to read) this one vampire series—Vampire Kisses—and I kept thinking, if this can get published, so can I! Of course, it’s NOT that simple. Don’t worry, I already received life’s kick in the ass for that pompous thought.

JET: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of book research? Most interesting fact you uncovered?
I gave myself an afro. It’s actually my author picture on Amazon right now. Trying to embrace one of the Forever Girls from an upcoming book. ;)

JET: Of all the novels and stories you’ve written - which one is your favorite? Why?
At the moment, SOMETHING LIKE VOODOO. It hasn’t been released yet. But it’s my most simple and fun story.

JET: Any advice (from a writer’s standpoint) for the novices out there?
Don’t feed the trolls ;) Don’t even try to kill them with kindness. You could give them candy and they will swear you’re shoving feces down their throat, and all their troll friends will believe them. It’s just not worth it. No matter how badly they lie or try to hurt you or attempt to instigate or bait you…ignore them. Or vent privately for a friend and let them believe you are ignoring them. FYI, ignoring them won’t make them go away, but it will prevent you from getting sucked up into their tornado of drama.

JET: All right - now that I’ve hammered you with the big questions, let’s tackle my favorite (and geeky) quick ten... starting with Paper or Plastic?
Paper

JET: Steak or Tofu?
Tofu

JET: Beach or Mountains?
Mountains

JET: Country or Rock-n-Roll?
A little bit of both J

JET: Leather or Lace?
Lace.

JET: Angels or Demons?
Demons.

JET: Paper or Digital?
Digital.

JET: Silent Film Classics or Cheesy B Rated Horror?
You are wrong for even asking this. ;)

JET: Twilight or True Blood
True Blood

JET: Coffee or Tea?
Café con Leche.

JET: Thank you for indulging me. Before we wrap this up, can you tell us what you're working on now? What's next?
A Paranormal Steampunk Haunting – Gears and Ghosts.
When alcohol can no longer keep the ghosts away, Kate is forced to face her fear of the Contraption—a machine built by her crazy great-grandfather to send spirits to the afterlife—while solving the mystery surrounding the death of several children in their town, all of whom were brutally murdered in the basement of the local orphanage.

Thank you so much for taking the time to chat on my blog. Folks, you can find out more about Rebecca Hamilton and her work at the following places:
Thank you for having me J

Until next time,
Ciao.

Secret Worlds - The Forever Girl

Secret Worlds Boxed Set
I'm very excited to be included with 20 other USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Authors in the Secret Worlds Boxed Set. Many of you are probably already familiar with my included title, THE FOREVER GIRL, but for those who aren't, here's the full blurb.

Beautiful blonde with dandelions

The Forever Girl

At twenty-two, practicing Wiccan Sophia Parsons is scratching out a living waiting tables in her Rocky Mountain hometown, a pariah after a string of unsolved murders with only one thing in common: her.

Sophia can imagine lots of ways to improve her life, but she'd settle for just getting rid of the buzzing noise in her head. When the spell she casts goes wrong, the static turns into voices. Her personal demons get company, and the newcomers are dangerous.

One of them is a man named Charles, who Sophia falls for despite her better judgment. He has connections that might help her unveil the mystery surrounding her ancestor's hanging, but she gets more than she bargains for when she finally decides to trust him.
